Attention Doctors, healthcare professionals, and community groups!
National Health awareness days are special days, weeks, or months dedicated to raising awareness about important health topics.
If they are important to you, tell people on social media.
They also provide fresh content ideas for social media posts, press releases, or fresh content for your website. Use the following list to helpbrainstorm and plan your calendar of promotions for the year.
By supporting National Health awareness days, you can:
- Educate the public about health risks.
- Organize health promotion, events, and campaigns.
- Share topic-specific ideas, information, and resources.
- Plan your social media marketing.
Plan Your Social Media Marketing
Planning your social media marketing for the year can seem a bit intimidating, but there are recurring national health awareness days that you can add to your calendar to help fill it.
- Holidays: Use the National Day Calendar to find holidays you might not have even heard about.
- Events: These can be your company’s, local, or national events.
- Sales: If you have recurring sales like a Black Friday sale use them to fill your calendar.
- Themes: If you support health causes like Thyroid Awareness Month you can use it to create your content around the topic.
Monthly themes focus your content on something that is happening during the month.
For example:
- January theme: Thyroid Awareness Month
- February theme: American Heart Month
Weekly and daily observances are events that happen a specific week.
Step 1. Choose monthly themes.
Step 2. Choose key weekly and daily observances
Step 3. Plan your social media post around these dates.

World AIDS Day
Each year on December 1, the World AIDS Campaign hosts World AIDS Day to raise awareness, fight stigma, and improve education about HIV/AIDS. Promote this NHO within your networks using these toolkits from HIV.gov and healthfinder, and share heathfinder’s easy-to-understand resources on getting tested for HIV and talking with the doctor about HIV testing. You can also learn about lessons we’ve learned in the fight against HIV/AIDS about the importance of partnerships in this blog post. And be sure to check out the Healthy People 2020 HIV topic area to find out about national objectives focused on reducing the burden of HIV.
National Influenza Vaccination Week
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases (NCIRD) is sponsoring National Influenza Immunization Week from December 1 to 7. You can join the conversation and share promotional materials about flu vaccines by using this NCIRD toolkit. Learn more about Healthy People 2020 objectives focused on vaccines in the Immunizations and Infectious Diseases topic area — and use this healthfinder resource to help people in your community learn about protecting themselves from the flu.
