Let’s talk about how to prevent your emails, your business emails from going to the spam folder.
Because the intent is that when you send an email, the intended recipient is supposed to receive it, right?
Well, sometimes, that doesn’t happen.
Sometimes your emails end up going to the spam folder.
So why is that?
I’m going to share with you 6 ways today, 6 things that you can do to avoid your emails from going to the spam folder.
These are great practices, no matter what business you have, by the way, this email was inspired by a question I received from a client that is a real real estate agent. This is the same advice I gave the doctor, optometrists, lawyers, 2 churches. They work, regardless of your industry, or what email service provided you use.
Leave a comment or a questions below.
- Don’t scrap email addresses
- Don’t buy email lists (just like you should not buy Facebook likes)
- Look at your numbers
- Use a reputable email service provider
- Ask them to whitelist you.
- What is the “from name”?
You want to email people about what you do, and you’ve been saving business cars, so you start emailing everybody because that is what you should do, right?
Wrong.
If you’re going to do any type of business email marketing, you should become familiar with the cam spam law. So you don’t get in trouble.
The CAN-SPAM Act establishes requirements for commercial messages, gives recipients the right to have you stop emailing them, and spells out tough penalties for violations. Read more about it here https://www.ftc.gov/tips-advice/business-center/guidance/can-spam-act-compliance-guide-business
The same thing happens when people buy lists.
When I started marketing in early 2003, buying lists was the typical thing to do. A lot of people purchased email lists, and yes, they got sales.
But there is a problem with the marketing industry. Most marketers communicate and teach that a 3% conversion rate is acceptable. While that might be good or not depending on your point of view. 97% of the people didn’t like what you were selling. 🤷♂️
Instead, I suggest my client’s to catch piggyback riding or sometimes be referred to as a ridealong.
If a 3% conversion rate is acceptable to you, you should raise your standards.

Another thing that you want to look at and improve is your email delivery percentage, your open rate, and your click-through rate percentages.
They are a plethora of email service provides out there; the ones I’ve used and recommend are Aweber, Mailchimp, and Sendfox.
Regardless of the email marketing service you end up using, using the double-opt-in in combination with a thank you page will help prevent emails from going to the spam folder.
Also, please take into consideration what appears in the “from” field when you send an email. Help people to quickly identify you when your email hits their inbox. Otherwise, yes, you’ll bypass the spam folder, but you’ll end up in the delete folder. 🤷♂️
These are all good practices to prevent your business emails from going to the spam folder, and if you found this post useful, please share on social media and tag me on social media @angelfanderson 😉
