I’m sure you agree with this…
If you want your current situation to improve, something have to change.
- Whether is your environment
- Maybe what you do on the daily basis
- Your immediate “friends”
- Stop watching TV
Change what ever is causing you “that” particular behavior.
I know, its easier said than done.
Thankfully there is something anyone can do.
First stop punishing yourself
First stop punishing yourself by procrastinating. When you delay what you need to-do today, right now for later you are punishing yourself and here is why.
When you sit down to watch TV and you tell yourself you are doing it because you need to “unwind” and at the end of the first, second, or maybe third show you said to yourself…I’m suppose to do XYZ and what happens? …you continue with the current behavior and push what you really need to-do right now for later.
Procrastination is like paying the interest on your credit card purchase when you had cash to pay it in the first place.
2 ways you can improve today
There are 2 ways you can improve your behavior starting today.
- Positive reinforcement
- Negative reinforcement
Positive reinforcement involves applying something positive when the desired behavior is demonstrated. This could be praise or as simply as your favorite sweet as reward.
Negative reinforcement is taking something positive away to increase the positive behavior. This might be taking away a night out with friends or something you really want.
If you want to keep going the punishment route.
Negative punishment is taking something away to decrease a negative behavior.
Positive punishment is applying something negative when negative behavior is demonstrated – such as telling yourself “no”.
Reinforcers seek to increase behavior, while punishments seek to decrease them.
